The International Sports Media Association, AIPS, gives great importance to this day during which we remember all those journalists who have worked in the past and are still working for the good of this profession.
AIPS was founded on 2nd July 1924 in Paris France with the first meeting being held on a boxing ring and hence the French name it has upheld since then – Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive.
To commemorate this day, AIPS President Gianni Merlo sent out a message of solidarity and encouragement to all Sport Media worldwide saying that we are currently living in an era facing huge challenges with the increase of popularity of social media as well as an increase in fake news.
AIPS Europe President Charles Camenzuli joined him by saying that these are exciting times for Sport Media facing challenges especially technological related ones in the media industry.
In a message on Facebook, Malta Sports Journalists Association President Sandro Micallef said that local sports media journalists should be united and more willing to help each other by exchanging resources irrelevant for which Media House they are working. He stated that there is strength in unity and this is the only way that local sports media can be of better quality aiding in the progress of Maltese sports.
