AIPS Europe President Charles Camenzuli had an official meeting with Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament.
During the meeting were discussed various matters, with Mr Camenzuli raising the issue related to the Petitions that AIPS Europe have filed over the past years with the European Parliament.
The President of the European Parliament took note of the current situation certain media establishments are facing. This includes payments for transmission rights as well as instances during which payments have been requested for the issuing of accreditations.
The President of AIPS Europe referred to the importance of having a European Commissioner for Sport. He also mentioned particular problems that are being faced in Europe by sport media while exercising their profession.
Reference was made to Artificial Intelligence and how this is leading to redundancies within the sport media. President Metsola stated that the European Parliament has voted on the AI act, which she described as a testament of European leadership, innovation but equally respect for fundamental rights.
President Metsola suggested AIPS Europe to prepare a position paper on the current problems within the European sport media covering, which paper suggests immediate action, which can be presented to the European Parliament’s relevant bodies.
The meeting was also attended by Mr Sandro Micallef, President of the Malta Sports Journalists Association.
