Duncan Micallef jirbaħ ir-raba’ IZIBET Elite Athlete Award għas-sena 2024

National Lottery plc u l-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports, bi pjaċir iħabbru li Duncan Micallef rebaħ ir-raba' unur tal-IZIBET Elite Athlete Award li jkopri x-xhur ta’ Lulju u Awwissu 2024. Nhar il-Ġimgħa 9 ta’ Awwissu, is-sewwieq Malti tad-Drag Racing Duncan Micallef ġie kkonfermat bħala l-aktar sewwieq veloċi fl-Ewropa fit-tielet rawnd tal-FIA European Drag Racing Championship li sar f’Tierp l-Iżvezja. Micallef kiser ir-rekord tiegħu, waqqaf rekord Ewropew ġdid ta’ 3.79 sekondi kif ukoll waqqaf rekord Ewropew b’veloċità ta’ 321.4 mili fis-siegħa. Duncan Micallef Micallef baqa’ jokkupa l-ewwel post tal-kampjonat sa qabel l-aħħar tellieqa, fejn spiċċa fit-tieni post b’erba’punti biss wara s-sewwieqa Żvizzera Jndia Erbacher. Sandro Micallef resigns as MSJA’s President – Clinton Buhagiar takes position as interim President

Sandro Micallef has stepped down as President of the Malta Sports Journalists Association (MSJA) citing personal and professional reasons. The announcement was made during the 2024 Annual General meeting which was held on Thursday. Micallef had been serving in the role of President of the MSJA for the past 7 seven years and his second term was due to come to an end in August 2025, however in the interest of the Association he decided to resign with immediate effect. He had been elected in the role of President on 10th July, 2017 and had been confirmed in the role 4 years later in the Association's AGM on 6th October, 2021. Previously he had also occupied the role of General Secretary of the Association and also served as an exco member in his early years in sports journalism. Sandro Micallef jirriżenja minn President tal-GħĠS – Clinton Buhagiar jinħatar President ad interim

Sandro Micallef irriżenja mill-kariga ta' President tal-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sport (GħĠS) għal raġunijiet personali u professjonali. Dan tħabbar waqt il-Laqgħa Annwali Ġenerali 2024 li saret il-Ħamis filgħaxija. Micallef kien ilu jokkupa l-kariga ta' President tal-GħĠS għal dawn l-aħħar 7 snin u t-tieni terminu tiegħu kien se jiġi fi tmiemu f'Awwissu tal-2025. Għaldaqstant, fl-aħjar interess tal-GħĠS hu ddeċieda li r-riżenja tiegħu tkun waħda immedjata. Huwa kien ġie elett bħala President waqt il-Laqgħa Ġenerali li kienet saret fl-10 ta' Lulju 2017 u kien ġie kkonfermat fil-Laqgħa Annwali Ġenerali li kienet saret fis-6 ta' Ottubru 2021. Il-kariga ta' Micallef bħala President waslet wara li kien jokkupa l-kariga ta' Segretarju Ġenerali u membru fl-Eżekuttiv fil-bidu tal-karriera tiegħu fil-ġurnaliżmu sportiv. Luca Vella and Leia Summer Madden take August’s Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award

Luca Galea (Open Water Swimming) and Leia Summer Madden (Karate) are the winners of the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for August. Luca Vella, aged 18, secured his third National Open Water Swimming Championship, following victories in 2021 and 2023. Luca was consistent throughout the whole championship and remained unbeaten after six races, of which five had a 2 kilometres course and the last one 4 kilometres. He finished the last race in 56 minutes and 49 seconds, just 3 seconds ahead of Sam Camilleri. Meanwhile, Leia Summer Madden, who turned 13 this month, won the silver medal as she placed second in the World Karate Federation Youth League in Cancon, Mexico.
