Lijana Sultana wins the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for October

Lijana Sultana has been awarded the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for the month of October. The 14-year-old became the new women’s champion in the Malta National Squash Championships held at the Marsa Sports Club. In the final, she won against Kimberley Galea 11-6, 10-12, 11-8, 11-8. This success in the women’s competition completed a double win for Sultana, after she managed to defend the Under-19 Junior title against Julian Scerri (11-7, 12-10, 11-4). The trophy for the October 2021 Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month together with the sports apparel voucher were presented to Lijana Sultana by Matthew von Brockdorff, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, and Robert Micallef, Chief Commercial Officer, of Atlas Insurance. The Malta Sports Journalists Association was represented by Administrator Stephen Azzopardi for this presentation. L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports tifraħ l-uffiċjali eletti tal-KOM, titlob għall-aktar aċċessibilità lill-media waqt Assembleji futuri

L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports (GħĠS) tifraħ u twassal l-awguri tagħha lill-President elett tal-Kumitat Olimpiku Malti (KOM) Julian Pace Bonello u tawguralu għal aktar ħidma għat-terminu li jmiss fit-tmexxija ta' dan l-ogħla organu sportiv. L-Eżekuttiv tal-GħĠS jifraħ ukoll lis-Segretarju Ġenerali il-ġdid Kevin Azzopardi wara li lbieraħ ġie elett f'din il-kariga fi ħdan il-KOM. Il-Kumitat Eżekuttiv tal-GħĠS jifraħ ukoll lill-membri eletti bħala diretturi fl-eżekuttiv, fosthom lil Paul Sultana bħala l-Viċi President il-ġdid, David Azzopardi li kien konfermat bħala Teżorier, Charlene Attard bħala Direttur tal-Isport, u lid-diretturi l-oħra Maria Vella Galea, Nigel McCarthy, Dr Lucienne Attard u Johanna Grech. MSJA congratulates newly elected MOC Executive and calls for better media access during future General Assemblies

The Malta Sports Journalists Association (MSJA) congratulates Julian Pace Bonello for his successful re-election as President of the Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC). The MSJA sends also its congratulations to Kevin Azzopardi for being elected as the new General Secretary of the MOC. Congratulations are being relayed also to the elected Executive Directors, Paul Sultana as the new Vice-President, David Azzopardi confirmed Treasurer, Charlene Attard new Director of Sport, Maria Vella Galea, Nigel McCarthy, Dr Lucienne Attard, and Johanna Grech. The Malta Sports Journalists Association urges the newly elected Executive Team of the Maltese Olympic Committee to continue building on the work that has already been carried out in the past years, and also strive in order to gain more recognition from all entities in Malta. Maltese Sporting Community is in mourning after the ex-Olympic Committee President passes away

The Maltese Sporting Community is in mourning after last night's announcement that Judge Emeritus Dr. Lino Farrugia Sacco passed away at the age of 72. Dr. Farrugia Sacco was an active member of the Maltese Olympic Committee, holding several positions, including the prestigious role of President between 1996 and 2013, during which time he shaped the MOC's functionality and implemented several initiatives to benefit elite Maltese athletes. He had strong ties with local sports federations, where in the past he held the role of President of the Malta Tennis Federation before making the decision to contest for the MOC's Presidency. Dr. Farrugia Sacco was also elected as the Treasurer of the European Tennis Federation. Dr. Farrugia Sacco chaired the evaluation commission for the 2021 Mediterranean Games as well as the European Olympic Commission's audit committee.
