The Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month award for August goes to the U17 Women Water Polo National Team

The U17 Women Water Polo National Team have been awarded the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for August. Like the Malta U15 National Water Polo Team in May, this award was given to all team players instead to an individual athlete. The team, led by coach Anthony Farrugia, left a positive mark in the first international experience for a Maltese women’s water polo national team at a European Championship. 19 nations competed in the LEN Women’s European U17 Water Polo Championships in Sibenik, Croatia, with Malta drawn in Group C with Croatia, Germany, Romania and Russia. Francesca Curmi u Sasha Gatt mogħtija t-trofej tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħa tax-Xahar

Francesca Curmi (Tennis) u Sasha Gatt (Għawm) ġew mogħtija t-trofej tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħa tax-Xahar, wara li kienu impenjati fl-impenji sportivi tagħhom, barra minn xtutna. Francesca Curmi li għandha dsatax-il sena kienet ingħatat l-unur tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħa tax-Xahar għal Frar. Curmi kellha prestazzjoni fl-ITF Tournament li kien sar f’Monastir, fit-Tuneżija, wara li kontra kull mistenni u meta lagħbet kontra avversarji aħjar minnha, hija kisbet sitt rebħiet u waslet saħasnsitra fil-finali, nhar il-Ħadd 28 ta’ Frar. Francesca saret l-ewwel plejer tat-tennis Maltija li waslet fil-finali. Sfortunatament fil-finali hija kienet sfat megħluba mill-avversarja Polakka. Sasha Gatt ta’ sittax-il sena ingħatat l-unur tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħa tax-Xahar għal Ġunju, wara li kisbet ħin ta’ 4:18.58 fl-400m freestyle, fejn tejbet b’ħames sekondi l-ħin preċedenti tagħha stess ta’ 4:23.33 fi Frar li għadda. Francesca Curmi and Sasha Gatt were presented with their Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month awards

Tennis player Francesca Curmi and swimmer Sasha Gatt were presented with their respective Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month awards, following their international sporting commitments. Nineteen-year-old Francesca Curmi had been declared the winner of the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month for the month of February. This was mainly due to her stellar performance during the ITF Tournament held in Monastir, Tunisia, when, against all odds and facing better seeded opponents, she achieved six straight victories to reach the final played on Sunday 28th February. Francesca became the first ever Maltese tennis player to reach the final of a ‘Futures’ event. Unfortunately, she was beaten by her Polish opponent in the final. Sixteen-year-old Sasha Gatt was chosen as the winner of the June award following her outstanding results in the 400m freestyle, where she stopped the clock at 4:18.58, over five seconds faster than the 4:23.33 mark she established in February. Jeremy Zammit rebbieħ tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħ tax-Xahar għal Lulju

L-Atleta ta' Pembroke Athleta, Jeremy Zammit, ingħata l-unur tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħ tax-Xahar għal Lulju. Zammit diġa’ rebaħ l-unur f’April wara li kien kiseb il-midalja tad-deheb fil-kategorija ta' taħt it-18-il sena fit-tielet edizzjoni tal-EAP International Meeting li sar f'Katanja. Fix-xahar ta’ Lulju Jeremy Zammit kompla jikteb ismu fl-istorja meta għamel qabża tajba ta’ 7.58 metri u sar l-ewwel Malti li għadda għall-finali tal-Kampjonati Ewropej tal-long jump li saru f’Talinn l-Estonja. Huwa spiċċa fil-ħames post fil-finali, meta għamel qabża ta’ 7.62 metri li huwa wkoll rekord nazzjonali ġdid. Din il-qabża kienet tliet ċentimetri biss anqas mir-rekord dinji miksub fl-kategorija ta’ taħt it-18-il sena.
