Jeremy Zammit wins the first Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for this year

Jeremy Zammit has been awarded the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for the month of January. Zammit is familiar with this award after winning it in April and July of last year.

The Maltese athletics season got off to a flying start with a memorable day, especially for Jeremy Zammit (Pembroke Athleta) who, at just 17 years of age, broke the long-standing senior national record in long jump, with a 7.73m jump. The previous record, which stood at two cm less, was held by Rachid Chouhal, who interestingly also produced his own record on the same day, setting a new category landmark at 6.34m among the male over 45.

Zammit is no stranger to this award, having already won it in April and July last year for breaking domestic records and putting in impressive performances in the EAP International Meeting and the European U-20 Championships, which also saw him being a runner-up for Atlas the Youth Athlete of the Year 2021 award.

The trophy for the January 2022 Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month together with the sports apparel voucher were presented to Jeremy Zammit by Matthew von Brockdorff, Managing Director & CEO, and Robert Micallef, Chief Commercial Officer, of Atlas Insurance. The Malta Sports Journalists Association was represented by Administrator Stephen Azzopardi for this presentation.

This award is a joint initiative of the Malta Sports Journalists Association and Atlas Insurance. The adjudicating panel of this award takes note of all the youths' achievements of the month under review and at the same time it invites local sport associations and federations to send in their nominations for consideration if they feel that any of their under-21 athletes have distinguished themselves during that month.

Jeremy Zammit ingħata l-unur tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħ tax-Xahar għal Jannar. Zammit huwa familjari ma’ dan il-premju, li rebaħ darbtejn is-sena li għaddiet f’April u f’Lulju.

Bidu mill-aqwa għall-istaġun tal-atletika Maltija, b’mod speċjali għal Jeremy Zammit ta’ Pembroke Athleta, li għad għandu biss 17-il sena, li kiser ir-rekord nazzjonali fil-long jump b’qabża ta’ 7.73m. Ir-rekord preċedenti, ta’ żewġ ċentimetri inqas, kien f’idejn Rachid Chouhal, li proprju fl-istess ġurnata waqqaf rekord fil-kompetizzjoni tal-over 45 tal-irġiel, b’6.34m.

Zammit huwa wiċċ familjari għal dan il-premju, meta rebaħ f’April u f’Lulju tas-sena li għaddiet, wara li kiser rekords nazzjonali u kellu prestazzjoni impressjonanti fl-EAP International Meeting u l-European U-20 Championships. Zammit kien ukoll spiċċa runner-up fil-premju tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħ/a tas-Sena 2021.

It-trofew tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħa tax-Xahar għal Jannar 2022 flimkien mal-vawċer t’abbiljament sportiv abbinat ma' dan il-premju ġew ippreżentati lil Jeremy Zammit minn Matthew von Brockdorff, Managing Director u CEO, u Robert Micallef, Chief Commercial Officer ta' Atlas Insurance. F’isem l-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports kien hemm preżenti l-Amministratur Stephen Azzopardi.

Dan il-premju ta' kull xahar jingħata b'inizjattiva konġunta tal-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports flimkien ma' Atlas Insurance. Il-panel li jiġġudika r-rebbieħa ta' dan il-premju jieħu nota tas-suċċessi miksuba matul dak ix-xahar u fl-istess ħin jistieden lill-assoċjazzjonijiet u federazzjonijiet sportivi sabiex jibagħtu n-nomini tagħhom. In-nominati li jiġu evalwati jridu jkunu taħt il-21 sena.
