Rylee Borg (Weightlifting) and Malta’s U18 Volleyball Women Team are the winners of the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for April.
Rylee Borg, aged 17, was the standout performer during the Malta Open Championships organised by the Malta Weightlifting Association. He showcased an exceptional display of strength and skill across both Junior and Senior categories. Borg's impressive lifts included 109-113-116 kg in the snatch and 136-142-146 kg in the Clean & Jerk, culminating in a total of 262 kg and an outstanding score of 334 points. Moreover, Borg shattered records by setting 8 national records across Junior, U23, and Senior divisions.
Meanwhile, Malta’s U18 Volleyball Women Team are the Small Countries Association (SCA) U18 women’s champions for 2024. On home soil, at the Cottonera Sports Complex, Malta triumphed over Scotland in the final with a resounding 3-0 victory (27-25, 25-18, 25-20).
Rylee Borg and Malta’s U18 Volleyball Women Team were officially presented with the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award by Matthew von Brockdorff, Managing Director and CEO of Atlas Insurance together with Robert Micallef, Chief Commercial Officer. The Malta Sports Journalists Association was represented by President Sandro Micallef and Administrator, Stephen Azzopardi.
This award is a joint initiative of the Malta Sports Journalists Association and Atlas Insurance. The adjudicating panel of this award takes note of all the youths’ national and international achievements of the month under review, and at the same time, it invites local sport associations and federations to send in their nominations for consideration if they feel that any of their under-21 athletes have distinguished themselves during that month. All the monthly winners are eligible for the annual award.
